Manchester United's Jose Mourinho won't receive touchline ban for foul language

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has escaped a touchline ban after the Football Association found a charge that he used offensive language after the win over Newcastle to be unproven.

Mourinho was charged with using "abusing, insulting or improper" language in Portuguese as he looked into a television camera following the 3-2 win over Newcastle on Oct. 6.

United said they would "vigorously contest" any sanction and after a hearing of the FA's independent regulatory commission on Wednesday, the charge was found to the allegation to be "not proven."

An FA statement read: "A charge against Jose Mourinho for allegedly using language which was abusive and/or insulting and/or improper has been found not proven following an independent regulatory commission hearing.

"It related to an incident at the end of the Manchester United versus Newcastle United game on Oct. 6, 2018."

Sources have told ESPN FC there is a possibility the FA may appeal.

Had Mourinho been found guilty, he could have been hit with a touchline ban. A two-game suspension would have seen the Portuguese coach miss Saturday's trip to Bournemouth and the first Manchester derby of the season at the Etihad Stadium on Nov. 11.

In 2011, Wayne Rooney was handed a two-match ban for swearing into a TV camera after scoring a hat-trick for United against West Ham.
