Manchester United's Chris Smalling wants to see more clean sheets

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has urged his side to tighten up their leaky defence after waiting four matches to keep their first clean sheet of the season.

United earned a shutout in the 2-0 victory over Burnley but have already shipped in seven goals -- a tally which took 12 matches to reach last term.

"Last season we picked up a lot of clean sheets and this year we've conceded early goals," Smalling told MUTV. "We need to get back what we've done in the last few seasons when we've conceded very few goals, like on Sunday.

"It was down to us players to stand up tall and get a result, and we're very happy with the win.

"With us not having a game in the week, we've been able to work on a lot of patterns of play and you could see them coming out and finishing with the goals, so we were happy with that."

Following the international break, United travel to Vicarage Road on Sept. 15, where they will face a Watford side who are joint leaders having won all four of their opening fixtures.
