Manchester United legends' Salford City sack joint managers

Salford City will play Manchester United in a preseason friendly.
Salford City have parted company with managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley.

The joint-managers of Salford City, part-owned by ex-Manchester United players including Ryan Giggs, have left the club.

A statement from the club said Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley were leaving due to "irreconcilable differences around personal terms" despite taking the club into the National League.

Johnson and Morley have guided Salford to three promotions in four seasons.

Gary Neville, one of the club's co-owners alongside Nicky Butt, Phil Neville, Giggs, Paul Scholes and businessman Peter Lim, said in a statement: "The last four seasons with the managers have been the most successful in the club's history and a huge part of that is down to Anthony and Bernard, so this announcement is regrettable.

"However after a meeting this morning between myself, senior management and the managers it was clear there were differences between us that could not be resolved.

"It was therefore decided to part ways and, whilst this is disappointing, it is the right decision for all concerned."

Salford, who are planning for their first season in the highest level outside the Football League, said an announcement about a new manager would be made in the coming days.
