Anthony Martial out of squad as Man United confirm injury

Manchester United left Anthony Martial out of the squad to face Crystal Palace on Monday because of an injury, his club confirmed.

Jesse Lingard, who scored the winning goal against Chelsea as a substite last weekend, entered the lineup in Martial's place in the only change for Jose Mourinho.

United tweeted "Jesse Lingard comes in for Anthony Martial, who is injured," but did not expand on the extent of the 22-year-old's issues.

Asked about Martial's omission pregame by Sky Sports, Mourinho said only: "Injured. I don't know [the extent of it]. Yesterday he felt that he wasn't right."

Scott McTominay retained his spot in midfield alongside Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba.

Luke Shaw, Michael Carrick and Eric Bailly were all left on the bench.

Palace will be without Timothy Fosu-Mensah, who can not play against his parent club, but get Martin Kelly and Jeff Schlupp back from injuries.
