Ryan Giggs says Marouane Fellaini is happy to shrug off criticism

Marouane Fellaini is happy to ignore criticism from Manchester United fans, according to Ryan Giggs.

Fellaini was applauded off the pitch at Old Trafford on Saturday after scoring twice in the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace.

The Belgian has not always been a fans' favourite at United since he was signed by David Moyes from Everton for £27.5 million in 2013.

Giggs has played with and coached Fellaini. And he insists the midfielder has never let supporters' criticism affect him.

He told Sky Sports: "I've worked with him and he's a great lad to train because he does exactly what you want, and hasn't let the fans bother him because he's always had the support of the players and the coaches."

Fellaini has come into United's midfielder as a replacement for Paul Pogba, who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Jose Mourinho says he feels "weaker" without Fellaini in his squad. And Giggs believes the 29-year-old has repaid he manager's faith.

"Marouane Fellaini has really proved his importance, stepping in for Paul Pogba," Giggs added.

"He has scored important goals, as he did at Everton, and I'm really pleased for him after taking a lot of stick over the years.

"He is effective, knows his strengths and limitations, and he's somebody who Jose has put a lot of faith in and he has repaid that with some important goals."
