Jose Mourinho has hinted that Wayne Rooney could return to Manchester United one day.
Former United captain Rooney was in the Everton team that lost 4-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, having rejoined his boyhood club in the summer.
In July, sources told ESPN FC that the 31-year-old could return to United as an ambassador once he retires from playing.
And Mourinho said: "He's at home and I believe that one day he will be back home."
He praised the reception given to the club's record goal scorer, adding: "It's the nature of English fans, it's the nature of big clubs when the player is big in the club and is an important part of the club history.
"Every club in England does that. I can only speak by Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford, but in both stadiums when we got former important players the reception is normally phenomenal. No surprise at all."
