Manchester United will need pragmatism at times - Jose Mourinho

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has said there will be times when he needs to adopt a more pragmatic approach despite the free-scoring start that sees United top of the Premier League.

United have won their first three games, scoring 10 goals and conceding none, and Mourinho told reporters: "Maybe they are going to say, because my team are not conceding goals, I'm defensive.

"We are playing well. Probably in some matches where we are not playing well, probably we are going to be defensive.

"Probably if in some match the opponent is playing better than us we have to be pragmatic and realistic and defend."

Mourinho stressed that he was "not getting carried away" by his side's blistering start to the season, adding: "Three matches, nine points -- it's good, but it's three matches."

He credited their form to a successful preseason campaign in the United States, adding: "We worked really well, had great conditions to work together in a beautiful atmosphere in Los Angeles.

"We played against good teams, the best team in the world [Real Madrid] twice. The preseason was very complete and then we start the Premier League and are playing well."
