Jose Mourinho confirms talks over Zlatan Ibrahimovic's Man United return

MANCHESTER -- Jose Mourinho has confirmed Manchester United are in talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic over a new deal.

The striker was released in the summer after a knee ligament prematurely ended his first season at Old Trafford. Despite not having a contract, the 35-year-old is using the club's facilities during his rehabilitation.

New £75 million striker Romelu Lukaku has taken the Swede's No. 9 shirt but on the eve of the new season, Mourinho has confirmed United are in talks with Ibrahimovic about signing a new deal once he is fully fit.

He told a news conference on Friday: "You know he's injured, he needs time to recover, he's not ready to play tomorrow.

"It's not something urgent, that we are desperate to have it done or not done, I just think that he was very clear by showing what he did last year was not enough for him, he thinks he can do more and wants more at the highest level so we are having conversations and we are discussing the possibility of him to stay with us for the second part of the season."
