Manchester United in shock following terrorist attack - Regan Poole

Manchester United's Regan Poole has described the shock at the club's Carrington training ground following the terror attack in the city.

The Wales under-21 defender was at his apartment in the city on Monday night when a suicide bomber detonated a device at the Manchester Arena which killed 22 and injured more than 100.

But Poole said some of his United teammates were out in the city centre with their families and close to the scene of the tragedy.

"A couple of the boys were having food with their families in Manchester at the time," Poole said.

"They said it was unbelievable. I don't know anyone who was in the Arena at the time, but it was obviously obscene and people said they'd never seen anything like it.

"We had our car searched on the way to training the next morning and the whole city was in kind of lockdown.

"At the training ground there was security and police, it was a shock to everyone."

Poole has made one senior appearance for United since joining from Newport in September 2015 in a deal which could potentially rise to £400,000.

The 18-year-old came on as a substitute against Danish club Midtjylland in the Europa League in February 2016 and has been a regular for United's reserve team this season.

"It's a sad time for the club," Poole said after United's 2-0 Europa League final victory over Ajax on Wednesday.

"The Europa League final was a couple of days after and the players and the club responded very well.

"They were under a huge amount of pressure anyway before the attack. So for them to back it up with a win put a little bit of a smile on everyone's faces back in Manchester."
