Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has not used Paul Pogba properly in the France midfielder's first season at Old Trafford, says Thierry Henry.
Pogba joined United from Juventus for a world-record fee of £89.3 million last summer, but has failed to convince in his maiden campaign with the 13-time Premier League champions.
The 24-year-old has made 50 appearances for Mourinho's side, scoring eight goals and providing six assists in all competitions, but former France international Henry says the talented Pogba has been deployed too deep this season.
"It was always going to be difficult for Paul Pogba," Henry wrote for Sky Sports.
"They don't use Pogba where he should be playing -- he's not a holding midfielder. He likes to play higher or off the left.
"You lose a bit of him when he plays deeper. When you have a price tag like his, people are always going to talk. It could be good if someone comes in during the summer with a bigger price tag, then people might leave Pogba alone.
"I think his second season can be better. He's got much more to offer."
Mourinho's men have already won the EFL Cup and will face Ajax in the final of the Europe League on Wednesday. According to Henry, if United can haul in a second trophy for 2016-17, the Portuguese's first season in charge of the club will be considered a success, despite criticisms surrounding their style of play.
"Are they entertaining? Are they a nice side to watch? At the end of the day, it will be the EFL Cup and the Europa League -- if they win it," Henry said.
"Then they will be in the Champions League and it will be a successful season. Whether you like Jose Mourinho or not, it will be a successful season."
Old Trafford stalwart Wayne Rooney has found minutes hard to come by under Mourinho. Henry says the England captain should consider following retiring Chelsea defender John Terry's lead.
"Everyone would love to see Wayne Rooney finish his career at Manchester United, but I doubt it," Henry said.
"I think he might have to go. When you have a player like Rooney and he's not playing, what's the point?
"If he's not part of the team, then he should go. That's exactly what John Terry said when he left Chelsea."
