Manchester United to shun parade if they win Europa League - sources

Manchester United are not expected to hold an open-top bus parade if they win the Europa League, sources have told ESPN FC.

United will end the season with three trophies if they beat Ajax in Stockholm on Wednesday, adding to the Community Shield and EFL Cup.

But even if Jose Mourinho's side clinch the trophy, they are unlikely to hold a procession through Manchester.

The club took a similar decision ahead of the FA Cup final last season, when United beat Crystal Palace after extra time to win the trophy for the first time since 2004.

United's last parade was in 2013 when nearly 100,000 fans lined the streets to celebrate the club's record 20th top-flight title and mark the end of Sir Alex Ferguson's 27-year reign at Old Trafford.

A reported 500,000 packed into Manchester for United's homecoming parade in 1999 after they had won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League Treble.

A spokesperson for Manchester City Council said: "It is a matter for the club whether they wish to hold a celebratory event or not.

"There has been no contact from Manchester United to the city council, but we, along with our colleagues at Trafford Council, would be ready to support the club should they win the Europa League and wish to hold an event."
