Angel Gomes became the first player from since 2000 to appear in a Premier League game when he became Manchester United's youngest debutant in more than half a century against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Gomes replaced Wayne Rooney in the 88th minute of the 2-0 win at Old Trafford to make his first senior appearance at just 16 years and 263 days old.
He is the first 16-year-old to play for United since Norman Whiteside in 1982 and the club's youngest debutant since David Gaskell in 1956 -- 61 years ago. Duncan Edwards was 16 years and 185 days when he made his debut in 1953.
Gomes, born on Aug. 31, 2000, is also the first United player in any competition to be born this millennium.
"Obviously, it's a dream come true," Gomes told MUTV. "I've been here since the age of six, working my way up and it's what everyone dreams about. I just want to thank the manager for putting me on the bench and playing me today, and all the staff back at the club and everyone who has helped me. I'm from Manchester, Salford and it's literally down the road. It's just unbelievable.
"I saw Eric Bailly go down and we'd already made two subs. I didn't know and Matty Willock was told to warm up so I was a bit curious. The boss told me to warm up and I was out there about 25 minutes with Daley Blind and then I heard my name."
Gomes already received United's youth team player of the year for this season.
"It happened so quickly really, from Thursday to Sunday, training on Friday and making an impression in Saturday's training before being named on the bench today and coming on.
"It was a dream coming on and it's happened so quickly. I don't know what the future plans are for next season but I just want to continue playing, whether it's in the Under-18s or Under-23s, I just want to stay with the good habits and carry on pushing really. Who knows, I'm not sure what the plans are for next season."
Gomes was one three players to make their debuts against Palace after Josh Harrop -- who scored the first goal -- and Demetri Mitchell were picked in a starting XI with an average age of just 22.
"I've dreamed about it so many times so, for it to come true, I'm delighted," Harrop told MUTV. "Over the moon!"
Jose Mourinho also handed full debuts to goalkeeper Joel Pereira and midfielder Scott McTominay.
"It was a great experience, it's what dreams are made of," Mitchell told MUTV. "You try and picture how you want the game to go but it is different out there.
"Of course there were a few nerves but all the lads -- Paul [Pogba], [Michael] Carrick and [Phil] Jones -- were great before and during the game.
"It was great to have them alongside to help me through the game and give me confidence."
