Manchester United can compete for the title next year, according to former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard. Jose Mourinho's side currently face a big gap to Premier League leaders Chelsea but have been making encouraging progress in recent games and are clawing back ground on the top four. Gerrard, who retired as a player last month, said in his role as a BT Sport pundit ahead of Saturday's game against West Brom: "They're only a few more pieces away from the jigsaw that'll make them compete again at the top. "I think next year Manchester United will compete for the title. This year, they've maybe left themselves a little bit much to do, but they're certainly moving forward and playing an awful lot better than in previous years." When asked if United could finish in the top four this season, Gerrard replied: "Got a chance."
