Manchester United can claim Europa League glory - Michael Owen

Michael Owen has said that his former club Manchester United are capable of winning the Europa League after they were drawn to face St Etienne, where he famously shone for England as a teenager.

United will play the first leg of the round-of-32 clash against the French club at Old Trafford on Feb 16, before travelling to face the Ligue 1 side on Feb. 22.

Owen scored a stunning goal for England against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, which is the home of St Etienne.

The ex-Liverpool striker, who was at United for three years from summer 2009 to 2012, told BT Sport: "It's a good tie, I think, for Manchester United. It's not far too travel.

"I'll be interested in going back -- because I haven't been back since. I'll try.

"This is a hard competition to win, there are so many teams and it's a real grind, but I think -- with Manchester United's squad -- they're perfectly equipped to win it."

Former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves added: "It's a brilliant draw. Obviously, with the squad they have, they are always favourites.

"The depth they have means they can virtually use any of these players and win this tie comfortably."
