Man United's Jose Mourinho vows to protect booed Marouane Fellaini

MANCHESTER -- Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has said that midfielder Marouane Fellaini will always have his "protection" and "trust" -- but the Portuguese accepts some fans booing him.

Fellaini had come off the bench in last Sunday's match at Everton, when United were leading 1-0, then quickly gave away a late penalty which enabled the home side to secure a 1-1 draw.

The Belgium midfielder was on the bench again for United against Tottenham on Sunday and, when he came on to warm up, some fans booed him, before others started applauding.

Fellaini was eventually brought on deep into injury time against Spurs, with United leading, and they went on to secure a vital 1-0 victory.

At his postmatch news conference, Mourinho was asked if he heard the boos from the crowd, and replied: "I had that feeling. I accept it. From the fans, you have to accept everything, especially fans who are giving so much without getting so much back from us -- only honesty, professionalism, dedication, but not results they expects from us.

"They are so supportive to us so they can also be critical. Also, they had the Everton mistake by Marouane in their minds and no more than that. He's a player and person that I like. And the person is even more important than the player. He'll have my protection and always my trust."
