Manchester United's Henrikh Mkhitaryan targets Old Trafford goal

Henrikh Mkhitaryan set his sights on scoring at Old Trafford after getting his first Manchester United goal in the Europa League win at Zorya Luhansk on Thursday.

Mkhitaryan put United on their way to three points in Ukraine with a fine solo run and calm finish, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic confirming the win and a place in the knockout stages late on.

He told BT Sport: "I was waiting a long time for this goal. Hopefully my next goal is at Old Trafford.

"I want to score at home. It'd be a pleasure to score at Old Trafford, and I will try my best to do that.

"In the first half, it was a little bit difficult. We couldn't find the last pass. In the second half, we created space for wingers and strikers.

"Wayne [Rooney] created space for me and I scored. Also, for Ibrahimovic's goal, he had a lot of space up front."

Mkhitaryan, 27, was making his fifth appearance since returning to the side in November after a two-month absence, and he continued his encouraging form.

He has now started three successive games, the others being against West Ham United in the EFL Cup and Everton in the Premier League.

His performance was praised by manager Jose Mourinho, who told reporters: "He has a strong mentality. He was very determined to fight against his difficult adaptation [to life at United], and he is doing that in the best way."
