Man United fans sleep in toilet to try see Arsenal, no security threat - source

Two Manchester United supporters slept overnight undetected at Old Trafford in an attempt to watch the game against Arsenal -- but they were not considered a security threat, a source close to the club has told ESPN FC.

The United fans had been on a stadium tour on Friday and broke off from the rest of the party before staying overnight in a toilet.

United were playing Arsenal the following day and the supporters were only detected on the morning of the game, which ended 1-1, during a security sweep of the stadium.

A source told ESPN FC that the pair were handed over to police and the fact that they were not arrested reinforces that the incident was not a security threat.

The two fans, and their belongings, had been thoroughly searched, being put through a metal detector, before entering Old Trafford for the tour.

United had been at the centre of a security scare in May when their home match against Bournemouth had to be abandoned and rearranged after the discovery of a suspect package in a toilet.

A bomb disposal squad was called in and a controlled explosion carried out within the stadium. The package was later revealed to be a training device accidentally left in the ground.
