Jose Mourinho: Manchester United fans will support Wayne Rooney

Jose Mourinho expects Wayne Rooney to receive a warm reception from the 3,000 Manchester United fans that travel to Anfield for Monday's Premier League game against Liverpool.

Rooney, 30, has been on the bench for United's last three games and after being booed during England's World Cup qualifying win against Malta he was a substitute for the following game, a goalless draw against Slovenia.

But Mourinho has said the striker remains popular and respected among United supporters.

"Wayne was not booed by Man United fans," he said. "To be honest, the last match when he went through the warm-up I was feeling that Old Trafford was behind him and supporting him before he came on against Stoke.

"So I think at Man United he feels at home. At Man United he feels the respect he deserves -- not at Anfield obviously -- but he knows that here he is respected."

That is a view echoed by former United captain Bryan Robson, who said Rooney will receive "the love and respect he deserves" on his next appearance for the club.
