Too early to judge Paul Pogba at Man United - Juventus' Gianluigi Buffon

Gianluigi Buffon has admitted that criticism of his former Juventus teammate Paul Pogba makes him "smile."

Manchester United's world record summer signing has made a slow start upon his return to Old Trafford, scoring just once in six Premier League games.

Buffon, 38, won four successive Serie A titles in the same Juventus side as Pogba, where the Frenchman began building his reputation as one of the top midfielders in Europe.

The veteran Italy goalkeeper warned critics they should be on their guard after writing off the former Bianconeri man so quickly.

"Seasons are long, they last 10 or 11 months and we're just into the second month. I very often smile, because from September, people say to me that Pogba doesn't do things well and that Pogba isn't good," Buffon told RMC.

"There are still eight months to go before the end of the season, and it's at the end that we can draw conclusions. It's like horse racing, you only see the winners at the end, not the start."

United sit in sixth place in the Premier League standings and will travel to Anfield on Oct. 18 to take on Jurgen Klopp's in-form Liverpool side.
