Manchester United's Wayne Rooney behind manager Jose Mourinho

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has said that he remains "fully supportive" of manager Jose Mourinho despite not being in the starting lineup recently.

Rooney has been left out for the past three matches -- against Leicester City, Zorya Luhansk and Stoke City -- but came on as a second-half substitute on each occasion.

Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, Rooney said: "Of course you want to play. I'm not starting at the minute at Manchester United but I have to work hard to get back in the XI, then take my chance. I'm fully supportive of the players and manager."

He had started all of United's previous match this season under Mourinho, apart from when he was rested for a Europa League game against Feyenoord.

While Rooney has been left out of the starting lineup, Marcus Rashford has forced his way into the XI.

The 18-year-old striker was on the bench at the beginning of the season but has started the last three games -- and been rewarded with a recall to the England squad.

Discussing Rashford's England prospects, Rooney said: "He is a fantastic player, great attitude. He has got all the ability."
