Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford are "a fit" for each other and could form Manchester United's first-choice strike partnership, according to Gary Neville.
Wayne Rooney was left out of the Premier League starting line up for the first time this season when United defeated Leicester City, 4-1 on Saturday, paving the way for Ibrahimovic and Rashford to team up.
Former United captain Neville, now a Sky Sports pundit, said: "Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford seem to be a fit. Those two could eventually end up playing together.
"Ibrahimovic is clever enough to find the runs of Rashford. Rashford is clever. He isn't just a runner and a finisher."
Another of Rooney's former United teammates, Quinton Fortune, is refusing to write off the England captain's club career though.
Speaking at the Soccerex convention in Manchester, Fortune said: "No way in a million years am I going to say he's finished.
"You need to have Wayne around the place. You find me a player with his influence, his history in the game, his experience.
"If I were at United, I would squeeze as much as possible out of Wayne."
Fortune is not feeling sentimental about the decision to drop Rooney though, saying: "It's not sad, because it happens to every human being. Sometimes these things happen in life. No one is undroppable."
