Manchester United's Anthony Martial to miss Leicester game with calf injury

Anthony Martial has been ruled out of Manchester United's game against Leicester City on Saturday, Jose Mourinho has confirmed.

Speaking in his news conference on Friday, United manager Mourinho said the injury was a calf problem suffered in Sunday's 3-1 defeat at Watford rather than a head injury.

Martial suffered a clash of heads during that game but stayed on the field and was then dispossessed, leading to Watford's opening goal, before going off with an injury that was unspecified at the time.

Mourinho said: "Martial is not available. He is out because of the contusion in the calf and ankle area. I think you know when that happened. You guys are confusing concussion with contusion."

Earlier in the day, the Frenchman had tweeted: "Back to training today." On Tuesday, he had also been on Twitter to say: "Feel much better today. Thanks for all your support and your messages!"

Mourinho also defended the performance of Wayne Rooney ahead of Saturday's visit of champions Leicester.

"We are a team, we are not Wayne Rooney," he said. "We all started well, we all won four matches, and we all lost three matches in a week, so that is not Wayne Rooney."
