Paul Pogba starts for Man United in return to Old Trafford

Paul Pogba is in the starting lineup for Manchester United for their Premier League clash against Southampton on Friday night.

The world-record signing had been suspended for United's opener, a 3-1 win at Bournemouth, but now makes his return to Old Trafford, four years after departing for Juventus.

United manager Jose Mourinho said on Thursday that Pogba would play "some minutes," and has now given the 23-year-old a start in the midfield next to Marouane Fellaini.

Pogba has not played in any preseason matches following a campaign with France at Euro 2016.

In his news conference on Thursday, the United manager added that Pogba needs time to understand the way his side plays, but the team's style of play will not change drastically to accommodate the midfielder.

"He has adapted really easily because he knows the club, knows everybody," Mourinho said. "He has no need to have time to adapt, but he'll need time to build his condition and his understanding of how the team plays and how he'll fit in with that.

"We are not going to play with five at the back because with Juventus he played with five at the back. We are not going for dramatic changes. But, yes, there are changes in details in the game where we will have to change."

Centre-back Chris Smalling is available off the bench following an injury suffered in preseason. He was also suspended against Bournemouth.
