Man United defender Luke Shaw feared his career could be over after leg break

Manchester United's Luke Shaw thought he might never play football again before ending his 10-month injury absence at Wigan on Saturday.

Shaw, 21, suffered a double leg fracture against PSV Eindhoven last September, but finally made his comeback during the 2-0 friendly win at the DW Stadium. He is now ready to work with new United manager Jose Mourinho to challenge for "every title."

"When I had my first game on Saturday, I felt so emotional," Shaw said. "The crowd were with me and the cheers they gave me, it was the best feeling. My family were there to see it too.

"When I first did it [the leg break], I wondered if I'd play again. There was a fear of how long it'd take. But ... I knew I'd be back. My leg feels great and I just want to push on in preseason and get fully fit."

Shaw played the first half at Wigan before Mourinho brought him off to ease him back into the action. The coach praised Shaw after the match for giving up his summer holiday so that he could build up his fitness.

Shaw added: "I'm looking forward to working with him [Mourinho]. I've spoken to him. We're going to be challenging for every title this season. When I was younger I supported Chelsea. I'm happy with the appointment of Jose."

He added that he was not worried about new signings, explaining: "You're always playing for your future. At United, there will always be people coming in. Everyone's enjoying the training we're doing."

The United defender will also hope to force his way back into the England side, with Sam Allardyce preparing to take charge as the new manager, but said that he has "not paid too much attention to the England stuff" as he tries to win his place at club level.
