Manchester United's David De Gea is No.1 in the world - Ander Herrera

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has hailed his teammate David De Gea as the best goalkeeper in world football after his FA Cup heroics.

The Spanish stopper saved a second-half penalty from Romelu Lukaku in United's 2-1 semifinal win over Everton on Saturday with Marouane Fellaini and Anthony Martial scoring the goals for Louis van Gaal's team.

After Chris Smalling's own goal in the 76th minute, it was down to De Gea who made a string of superb saves to deny Everton from gaining the advantage, before Martial scored with virtually the last kick of the game.

"What can I say? I am not objective," Herrera said told Manchester Evening news.

"He is the No.1 in the world. In England you know that but in the rest of the world they think they have better goalkeepers, but I don't think so. When we win titles or trophies I think he will be more recognised.

"He has a special talent. When you are born with that quality and ability, you are so lucky. The rest of the humans, we have to work more. You have to work harder.

"But what I like about him is that he is very calm, he has his feet on the ground. He doesn't change when it comes to these kind of games so I think he is number one of Spain and in the world and he is my friend so I am very happy for him."

Herrera is also confident that his compatriot is happy with life at Old Trafford despite trying to win a move to Real Madrid last year, and reckons De Gea will be at United for the long run.

"I think he is very happy in Manchester United." he added.

"You can see that. If you are not happy in one place you cannot play like that, so it's easy to say that.

"We can be calm and optimistic, first because he is in a fantastic club and if we start winning trophies, it's easier to keep world class players."

United will take on Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final, after Alan Pardew's side sealed a 2-1 win in the other semifinal against Watford on Sunday.
