Man United striker Anthony Martial wins 2015 Golden Boy award

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has won the prize for Europe's best young player: the 2015 Golden Boy award.

United are winless in five games in all competitions, have been beaten in their last two, are out of the Champions League and are six points off the top of the Premier League, while their playing style has been widely derided as dull.

But one shining light has been the performance of the young Frenchman who joined in the summer for £36 million and has bagged six goals in his 19 games to date.

Martial, 20, scooped the prize -- which is reserved for players under the age of 21 -- ahead of Bayern Munich's Kingsley Coman and Arsenal's Hector Bellerin, while teammates Luke Shaw and Adnan Januzaj were also on the 40-man shortlist.

Wayne Rooney (2004) and Anderson (2008) were the club's previous winners, with Man City star Raheem Sterling (then at Liverpool) winning the 2014 version.

Italian publication Tuttosport first began the voting in 2003, with journalists from 30 major newspapers across the continent, including L'Equipe (France), Marca (Spain) and The Times (England) now invited to join.
