Man United's Luke Shaw thanks PSV fans for banner before Old Trafford tie

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has praised PSV Eindhoven fans for a "thoughtful" banner as he continues his recovery ahead of Wednesday's Champions League clash at Old Trafford.

Shaw, 20, suffered a double leg break following a sliding challenge by PSV's Hector Moreno in the reverse fixture in Eindhoven on Sept. 15, potentially ending the England international's season.

Moreno is set to play at Old Trafford in the Champions League on Wednesday but Van Gaal, who has exonerated the 27-year-old Mexico defender of blame, is confident his side will not be after revenge.

Shaw has been given four days off this week as the rehabilitation has taken its toll on the left-back's spirits, and the youngster took to Twitter to praise a banner from travelling PSV fans that read "Get well soon Luke Shaw."

The defender wrote: "Thank you to the PSV fans for your nice gesture. Looking forward to the game tonight #MUFC."

Van Gaal said on Tuesday that he was unsure when Shaw would return to action, adding: "I cannot answer that because you have to be very cautious.

"You know with an injury like that it can be going very well but one week it can go very bad and then he is months behind the schedule so you cannot say that [he will be back this season]. You can only say how he is dealing with his injury and I think [he is] very good.

"He is a very important player and I said in advance that he would be the revelation of the season and he was on his way to do that. It is a big loss because he is the best left full-back of Manchester United."

The Dutch coach has also recently said that despite playing Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young in Shaw's position since his injury, he is considering signing a new left-back in January.
