Man United's Phil Jones, Ander Herrera doubts for PSV Eindhoven tie

Manchester United expect to be without Phil Jones and Ander Herrera against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday and could have up to 10 players in total missing for the Champions League clash.

United defender Jones, 23, and midfielder Herrera, 26, both had to come off with injuries in Saturday's 2-1 Premier League win over Watford.

Herrera, who set up Memphis Depay's opening goal, suffered a hamstring problem while Jones hurt his foot.

"My first impression is that they are not too heavy but the problem is that we have to play Wednesday already," United manager Louis van Gaal told the club's official website on Saturday.

United were already without seven injured and ill players at Vicarage Road, although Van Gaal believes captain Wayne Rooney, who has a virus, and forward Anthony Martial, who has a bruised foot, could be back in contention to face PSV.

"Rooney is ill, and that is a matter of days, not weeks," Van Gaal added. "Martial is another problem -- his foot. It is not as heavy as the media have written but we have to wait and see if he can play Wednesday."

Antonio Valencia, who has had foot surgery, and Luke Shaw, who broke his leg against PSV in September, are long-term absentees.

Michael Carrick injured his ankle playing for England against Spain, and while it is not as serious as was initially feared, United are waiting to see when the 34-year-old can return.

Marouane Fellaini, who has a calf injury, is not expected back in time to face PSV, and while it was hoped striker James Wilson could make his comeback against Watford, he suffered a knee problem in training.

Juan Mata came off with a knock at Watford, although it is not thought to be a major issue.

United, who lost 2-1 to PSV in September, can clinch qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League with a victory at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
