David Beckham, Alex Ferguson making Man United return for UNICEF game

David Beckham and Sir Alex Ferguson will be reunited at Old Trafford next month for a UNICEF charity match.

Beckham, 40, will captain a Great Britain team which will be managed by Ferguson, 12 years after the former England skipper left Manchester United for Real Madrid in a £25 million deal after making 394 appearances for the Red Devils.

Their relationship soured in the latter years of Beckham's time at Old Trafford, with the manager reportedly unhappy at Beckham's celebrity lifestyle. And three months before his exit to Madrid came the high-profile dressing room row that allegedly saw Ferguson kick a boot which accidentally caught the player in the face.

The pair have patched up their differences in recent years and will now be back together at Old Trafford where they won six Premier League titles together for the "Match for Children."

But Sir Alex raised eyebrows recently when he did not name Beckham on a list of four world-class players he managed during his career, though the player himself said he was not offended.

Beckham also revealed that he is still wary of openly drinking alcohol in front of Ferguson.

"I called him and asked him. He's like a father figure to me," Beckham told BBC Radio 1.

"The other day I saw him for the first time in a long time. We'd never even think about having a little glass of wine or beer [as players] in front of him but the other day someone handed me a glass of wine and I was talking to him [Ferguson] for 20 minutes with the wine hidden behind my back.

"Me, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes all said the same thing, we all hid the glass of wine behind our back.''

Carlo Ancelotti will manage the World XI for the game on on Nov. 14, with France legend Zinedine Zidane his captain. Pierluigi Collina will referee the match.

Beckham said in a UNICEF statement: "I want a world where children can grow up safe from violence, free from poverty and protected from preventable diseases. This match gives me the perfect opportunity to raise awareness and vital funds to help reach the children who need it most.

"I am delighted that my friend Zizou will join me in leading two teams, full of our friends and teammates, at the best stadium in the world."
