Ryan Giggs should be the next Man United manager says Sir Alex Ferguson

Sir Alex Ferguson has backed Ryan Giggs to succeed Louis van Gaal as Manchester United manager.

Giggs currently sits alongside Van Gaal on the United bench as assistant manager and is one the most decorated players in the football club's history.

And Ferguson, who handed Giggs his Man Utd debut in 1991, believes that the 41-year-old will be ready to step up into the managerial position once the Dutchman calls it a day.

"I think Ryan has all the qualities to be a fantastic manager," Ferguson said, according to the Mirror.

"I have heard it said that he will have to go to another club first because he doesn't have enough experience.

"But he is gaining experience working with Louis van Gaal and he also had experience working with David Moyes and working under me as a player.

"I don't think that Ryan needs to go anywhere."

Van Gaal is halfway through a three-year contract at Man United, and has indicated that he plans to retire once the deal expires.

Ferguson, however, isn't convinced that the tactician will find it easy to walk away from one of Europe's biggest clubs.

"Louis has said he will retire in 2017, but I'm not so sure," Ferguson said.

"Once you get bitten by the bug at United it is very difficult to walk away."
