James Wilson scores for Man United under-21s in first appearance of season

James Wilson scored one goal and made another on his first appearance of the season as Manchester United's Under-21 side beat their Everton counterparts.

The 19-year-old forward has not been granted any time on the pitch by Louis van Gaal in competitive games.

And he was not even named on the bench for Sunday's 3-2 win over Southampton, even though Van Gaal had no specialist strikers among his substitutes.

The Dutchman has said he will allow Wilson to leave on loan to get first-team football and Derby have confirmed they are interested, although they expect competition from other Championship clubs.

But in the meantime, Wilson starred in a 3-1 victory for Warren Joyce's side in Leigh.

Wilson played a one-two with James Weir before the latter opened the scoring before adding the second goal himself.

Captain Jesse Lingard put United 3-0 ahead before Calum Dyson scored a consolation goal for Everton.
