David De Gea: Liverpool game 'perfect moment' to make United comeback

David de Gea has declared it is the "perfect moment" to make his Manchester United comeback and insisted he is ready to return to first-team action at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard almost joined Real Madrid in a £29 million move less than two weeks ago but signed a new, four-year United contract on Friday.

And, after he was omitted from United's first six games of the season because of manager Louis van Gaal's concerns about his state of mind, De Gea could make his return against Liverpool on Saturday.

"It is a perfect moment to come back and at Old Trafford, with the fans [there] and against Liverpool in one of the biggest games in the world. I know the fans will love it if we win the game," De Gea told MUTV.

The 24-year-old has not played a competitive game for United since May but appeared in Spain's victory over Macedonia on Tuesday.

And he added: "I train really hard and I played with my national team and of course I feel ready and 100 percent fit."

De Gea admitted it has been strange to be shrouded in speculation for so long but said: "It was a different summer, it is true. I keep my focus, I keep calm and I keep my hard work and I am happy now."

The former Atletico Madrid player has fond memories of Liverpool after producing a string of saves when Brendan Rodgers' team last visited Old Trafford in December 2014.

"It was a fantastic game, fantastic atmosphere and we won the game 3-0 at Old Trafford," he said. "It was a perfect day."

De Gea has been named United's player of the year in each of the last two seasons but the team have only won one piece of silverware, the 2013 Premier League, during his four campaigns at Old Trafford.

And he has set his sights on securing more honours, explaining: "We are one of the biggest clubs in the world and we are going to try and win everything. Of course, we know it is difficult but we are Manchester United and we want to win every game and every trophy."
