Memphis Depay wants to earn legendary status at Manchester United

Memphis Depay has said he wants to become a Manchester United legend.

Depay, 21, who joined from PSV Eindhoven for £25 million, is yet to make his competitive debut for United but has already set his sights on earning a place in the club's pantheon of greats.

He told Sky Sports News: "I want to be a legend. I will put pressure on myself to play well every game.

"I'm still young, I have to improve. The Premier League is different, so we will see.

"I have to do my job, so maybe in time I can be a legend."

The Netherlands international has made two appearances on United's preseason tour, scoring his first goal for the club in their 3-1 win over San Jose Earthquakes.

"It's given me a good feeling -- that's important because I'm new," he added. "It gave me a nice feeling to score that first goal for Manchester United, and I hope to score more goals in the future.

"We have great quality. We are getting in good shape for the real competition -- the Premier League, Champions League, the cups -- so we have to continue."

United finished fourth in the Premier League last season, but Depay is adamant they can challenge for the title this time around.

"It's realistic -- we are Manchester United," he said.

And he praised manager Louis van Gaal, for whom he played at last summer's World Cup, saying: "He's a great, great manager. He can make players a lot better.

"I feel I will be a better player every time I train with him. I feel stronger -- that's one of the things he can really do to you."
