Ander Herrera welcomes Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin deals

Ander Herrera has welcomed the signings of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin as he looked forward to the fight for places in the Manchester United midfield.

Herrera said World Cup winner Schweinsteiger is a role model and he hopes to improve from playing alongside the Germany captain.

The Spaniard, who joined United for £28.8 million from Athletic Bilbao in June 2014, finished last season in Louis van Gaal's side after a spell on the bench in the middle of the campaign.

While the arrivals of Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich and Schneiderlin from Southampton give him two more rivals for a place in the side, he said he is pleased the pair have arrived.

"We want to play in the Champions League, fight for the FA Cup and the Premier League," Herrera told reporters. "When you want to make a good season, it's not just with 11 players.

"I wish there were not but there are injuries, and there are good and bad moments for the players, so everyone is going to be involved in what I think will be a very good season."

Schweinsteiger has won 111 Germany caps, eight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League and Herrera is relishing the chance to partner him.

"He is someone I looked up to coming through the ranks," he said. "He is one of the five or six best midfielders in the world and of course I have to learn a lot from him, Michael Carrick and others.

"I always want to play with the best players and Bastian is one of the best in the world. I'm sure I am going to learn a lot of things from him.

"He is always safe with the ball. He always knows what is happening behind him and I have to learn that from him."
