Ryan Giggs: Manchester United want next season's Premier League title

Ryan Giggs has said Manchester United will target the Premier League title next season, believing they have shown the form of champions over the last three months.

United, who finished only seventh last season, are fourth in the table this time around and have lost just two of their last 18 games after a slow start to the campaign.

They meet Arsenal at Old Trafford in the FA Cup quarterfinals on Monday as they look to win the first silverware of Louis van Gaal's managerial reign.

And assistant manager Giggs feels lifting the trophy would be a springboard to future success.

He told The Sun: "Winning trophies just gives you confidence going into the next season.

"We have got title-winning form the last three months. We have proved it."

Giggs is the most successful player in the history of England's top flight, winning 13 league titles between 1993 and 2013.

He hopes United can depose Chelsea, who he believes will become this season's champions, in 2016.

"You have to do it over nine months and that is difficult to do in a very tough league -- but that will definitely be the aim next season," he added.

"You have got to be sensible. It has been a bit of a turbulent couple of years. We were champions two years ago, but it is going to take us a bit of time to get back to winning leagues.

"But without a shadow of a doubt that is the aim -- it is not just about getting in the Champions League.

"That is the aim this season, because we can't win the league. Chelsea are too far in front.

"But if you win an FA Cup and get in the Champions League that is definitely, for me, a good season."
