Nani believes he still has a future with Manchester United next season

Nani is hopeful he can resurrect his Manchester United career, despite being deemed surplus to requirements by the club this season.

Nani, 28, returned to former side Sporting Lisbon in the summer on a one-year loan as part of the deal that took Marcos Rojo to Old Trafford.

The Portugal international, who has scored five goals during his time back at Sporting, has three more years left on his United contract after the current campaign.

And the winger believes he still has a future at Old Trafford, telling reporters: "Why not? I went out [to Sporting] to play more and get to my best. If there is an opportunity, we will see."

Nani has scored 40 goals in 228 games for United since joining from Sporting in 2007, but has made just 14 Premier League starts since 2012.

He was back at Old Trafford on Tuesday night when he helped Portugal beat Argentina 1-0 in a friendly.

Nani added: "I think it was a very tough game for us but we knew, when we play against a team like that, it is very difficult.

"I think all the players did well. We defended the result but tried to win the game as well and, in the end, we had a bit of pressure and we won the game. It's great for us."

He was, however, also involved in a challenge that left United's record signing Angel Di Maria in pain, catching him on his right foot.
