Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal annoyed by Marcos Rojo work-permit wait

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says he is frustrated by the wait for Marcos Rojo to become eligible to play for the club, quipping that he cannot change the laws of Argentina.

- Jolly: How will Di Maria fit into Van Gaal's XI?

Rojo, 24, joined the Red Devils from Sporting Lisbon for 16 million pounds last week, but is still not available to make his debut because he does not yet have a British work permit.

The defender has had to leave the United Kingdom and go to the British embassy in Madrid, where as fellow Argentina international Angel Di Maria, who holds an Italian passport, will be allowed to feature in Saturday's game at Burnley following his arrival from Real Madrid.

"I cannot change the law of Argentina. I am a simple manager of Manchester United," Van Gaal told his prematch news conference.

"It is maybe the biggest club in the world but I cannot change the law, so we have to obey the law and it takes more time than is suitable for me, but the president of Argentina doesn't care."

Rojo will be one of 11 United players to miss the match at Turf Moor, with 10 others -- including summer signings Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw, plus Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and Shinji Kagawa -- sidelined with injuries.

Di Maria, however, will likely feature, with Van Gaal confirming as much to MUTV.

He said: "He is fit enough, he is ready to play. He has played a match in Madrid. He has a lot of hunger to play. He wants to support Manchester United."

Van Gaal added that he believes Wayne Rooney, who has been handed the England captaincy by Roy Hodgson, will become a superb skipper for United.

He said: "I have taken three weeks to observe all my players in the United States and I think he is ready for it and the future shall confirm that or not. I cannot predict that but my opinion is that he shall be a great captain for Manchester United."
