Ander Herrera injured in training

Manchester United summer signing Ander Herrera will miss the club's match against Sunderland on Sunday having picked up an injury in training.

Manager Louis van Gaal will also be without defender Marcos Rojo, who joined from Sporting Lisbon this week but has not been granted a work permit in time for the Premier League match at the Stadium of Light.

Herrera picked up an ankle injury during preparations for that match and is expected to be out for two weeks. Also out injured are Marouane Fellaini and Jesse Lingaard, who both picked up knocks in the 2-1 defeat by Swansea last weekend, as well as Michael Carrick, Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans and Rafael.

It means all three of United's marquee signings this summer -- Shaw, Herrera and Rojo -- are unavailable on Sunday. The 72 million pound outlay on that trio is a transfer window record for the club. More positive news for Van Gaal is that Robin van Persie is fit and available for selection having missed the Swansea match.
