Van Gaal names first Man United squad

Louis van Gaal has named a 25-man Manchester United squad for the club's preseason tour of the U.S, with Javier Hernandez, Patrice Evra, Marouane Fellaini and Anderson all missing out.

- Palmer: Preseason fixtures not to be missed
- Mitten: Van Gaal arrives and gets to work
- Payne: Arise, King Louis

The former Netherlands coach, who officially took over as Red Devils manager on Wednesday, has selected new signings Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera in the travelling party, while also including a number of youth prospects alongside established stars.#INSERT type:inline END#

The club announced that David de Gea, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Shaw, Shinji Kagawa, Juan Mata, Nani and Antonio Valencia will all feature after returning from World Cup duty, while Michael Carrick misses out following surgery on an ankle injury expected to keep him out for up to ten weeks.

Evra, Hernandez, Fellaini, Adnan Januzaj and Robin van Persie are the other notable first-team absentees, though all five were part of national squads that reached the latter stages of the World Cup. The France left-back, however, has been closing in on a move to Juventus in recent days.

The club have since announced that Anderson, who spent the second half of the 2013-14 campaign on loan at Fiorentina, will miss the tour after injuring his calf during preseason training.

Wilfried Zaha will get his chance to impress the new manager, though, after being loaned out to Cardiff by former United boss David Moyes last term.

The Premier League side will play four matches in the U.S., starting against LA Galaxy in the Chevrolet Cup on July 23. The club then compete in the International Champions Cup against Roma in Denver on July 26, Inter in Washington July 29 and Real Madrid in Ann Arbor on Aug. 2.

Spanish midfielder Herrera, who joined United from Athletic Bilbao last month, is looking forward to the tour.

He told MUTV: "It will be a new experience for me because it will be my first time outside Europe. All the people have told me there is a lot of United fans in America and I can't wait to play in front of them.

"I am very happy and really enjoying being at the club and in the city. The first couple of weeks here have been great.

"Training has been good, similar to at Bilbao in that we train a lot with the ball. The coaches want us to have the ball and keep possession, which is great for the players."
