Ryan Giggs: I may play against Norwich

Ryan Giggs has admitted he is considering picking himself for his first game as Manchester United’s interim manager.

The 40-year-old Welshman begins his reign as temporary manager in Saturday’s home game against Norwich following David Moyes' sacking on Tuesday, and said United’s injury problems are easing, with only Robin van Persie and Rafael da Silva ruled out.

Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic, who both missed Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Everton, are available again and Giggs revealed he could become United’s first player-manager since Lal Hilditch in 1927.

"I have not done much this week but I am still involved as a player as well," he told his prematch news conference. "I have trained okay this week but the lads have looked sharp.

“There’s 20-odd lads [in contention]. Only Rafa and Robin [are out]. Everyone else is fit.”

Giggs joked that his new role had allowed him to extend his 23-year playing career.

"I have just given myself a five-year contract," he said. "I am using my power while I can."

Sources told ESPN FC on Wednesday that United have approached Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal over the full-time position, and the 40-year-old claimed he has not thought about taking the manager’s job on a permanent basis.

"I am just concentrating on the four games remaining," he continued. "After that I have not thought about it."

Giggs revealed his message to his players in training was simple: "Just enjoy yourself and express yourself. I just felt the best way to do that was to make training as enjoyable as you can, go out and play and we have done that.”
