• Neville rejects 'big name' manager idea The former United midfielder had been coaching the Red Devils’ U19 team but was promoted to the role of assistant to interim manager Ryan Giggs after David Moyes was sacked earlier this week. Butt, who made 387 appearances for United, was a former teammate of Giggs, while another old colleague, Paul Scholes, who played 718 times for the club, has returned to become the Welshman’s other assistant. In addition, Phil Neville, a fourth product of United’s academy, was a member of Moyes’ coaching team and has remained in his role following the Scot’s dismissal. And Butt, who will be in the dugout for the first time when Norwich visit Old Trafford on Saturday, feels it is strange to see his generation in charge, although he says they are relishing the challenge. "It will be massive for us, a proud moment for us all," Butt told MUTV. "To be there together is a bit of a surreal thing. We walked in here together when we were 12 and to be here now -- I'm not 40 yet but Giggsy is, and myself and Scholes are nearly there too -- so for us and Phil to be there together is a very proud moment.” United are looking for a more experienced manager than the unproven Giggs, but Butt added: "We're here to try to help the club and get the results that we want from now until the end of the season. What happens after that, who knows?" United are seventh in the Premier League after suffering their 11th defeat of the campaign at Everton on Sunday. And Butt, who won six league titles and the Champions League during his time as a United player, accepts the club should have done better this season with the talented players at their disposal. He said: "We've got some amazing players at this club, good lads who care about the club, who are really positive about United and want the best for the club. Saturday is a massive occasion, not only for Ryan, but for the staff, the fans and the players as well because they know that we've underachieved as a club this year. "The players in that changing room know how good they are. They look round, look left and look right at the players next to them and know that they are very proud, hard-working lads. I'm sure we'll see that on Saturday."
