Ederson signs Manchester City contract extension through 2025
Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2025.
The Brazilian has been rewarded with a new deal after impressing in his first season at the Etihad Stadium following his £35 million from Benfica last summer.
Ederson has quickly settled into Pep Guardiola's side, and his record of 16 clean sheets were only bettered by Manchester United's David De Gea as he helped City to the Premier League title.
The 24-year-old, who is set to battle out with Roma's Allison for the No. 1 spot with Brazil at this summer's World Cup, signed a six-year deal when he moved from the Portuguese Champions but his new contract will now have seven years remaining on it.
"I'm delighted to sign my new contract. It means that the club is happy with my work, they trust me, and I hope to meet their expectations on the pitch and bring a lot of joy to the fans," he said.
"I want to win everything we can. All of the competitions, but for me the Champions League is without a doubt a very special competition for us, and it is my dream to win it in Manchester City's shirt."
As well as his shot-stopping skills, Ederson's ability with the ball has seen him become a perfect fit in Guardiola's team and director of football Txiki Begiristain believes he can go on to become one of the best keepers in the world.
"Ederson has shown in his first season at the club that he has all the attributes needed to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world," he said.
"He has outstanding quality and his ability with the ball sets him apart from his competitors. We are really looking forward to seeing him develop at City over the coming years."
City have given news deals to senior players Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Fernandinho and Nicolas Otamendi in recent months.
Sources have told ESPN FC that they are also keen to negotiate contract extensions for Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane.
