LONDON -- Manchester City will be remembered as on one of the greatest teams in 100 years' time if they set new Premier League records, according to midfielder Fernandinho.
Pep Guardiola's side have already won the league title and set the record for most consecutive victory earlier in the season when they won 18 matches in a row.
A victory over Huddersfield Town on Sunday would take City to a record 96 points and with a new Premier League record of 31 wins, while two more goals would take them to 104 -- beating the current highest mark of 103.
Those records are held by Chelsea but were set over three separate seasons, whereas Fernandinho believes this current campaign would mark City out as one of the greatest teams in history.
"It's a fact, we have a clear chance to break those records and we have to go for it," the Brazilian told reporters. "Otherwise it doesn't make sense to play football any more.
"We have three games and have the chance to break most of the records and we're going to do that. It helps us to keep our performance and play the same way as we have all season.
"In 100 years it will be remembered that Manchester City in 2017-18 broke all those records and played amazing football."
City will receive the Premier League trophy ahead of the game against Huddersfield and Fernandinho believes it would be the perfect opportunity to set new records.
"It would be a good time to do it, playing at home in front of our fans -- they deserve it, they have supported us in difficult moments through the season and now deserve to celebrate the league title and the records," he added. "It will be a good atmosphere next Sunday."
City will have to wait until the final game of the season to confirm a number of other records including best goal difference -- they are currently on plus-76, better than Chelsea's record of plus-71.
They could also beat Manchester United's record for biggest title-winning margin, although they will need Jose Mourinho's side to slip if they are to beat the 18-point record, with the difference currently at 16.
City's 4-1 win at West Ham on Sunday also saw them equal Chelsea's record of 15 away wins and they have the chance to surpass on the final day of the season at relegation-threatened Southampton.
