Man City's Fabian Delph banned for Carabao Cup final after red card

Fabian Delph will be suspended for Manchester City's Carabao Cup final against Arsenal after picking up a red card as his side crashed out of the FA Cup on Monday.

Delph was sent off after his reckless sliding challenge caught Wigan's Max Power just before half-time of City's 1-0 defeat in the FA Cup fifth round.

Referee Anthony Taylor initially brought out a yellow card but then showed red after protests from Wigan and a conversation with the fourth official.

City boss Pep Guardiola could also face a disciplinary investigation after confronting Wigan staff in the tunnel.

An irate Guardiola became embroiled in a touchline argument with Cook, and the pair continued their row in the tunnel and had to be separated by colleagues.

City striker Serio Aguero was also spotted in a brief confrontation with a Wigan supporter as the fans rushed onto the pitch after the final whistle.

After playing often in the first half the season, Delph was appearing in only his fourth game of 2018. He suffered a knee injury in mid-January and only returned in last week's Champions League trip to Basel.

The suspension will carry at least an automatic three-match ban in domestic competitions. Barring an appeal, Delph will miss two games against Arsenal -- Sunday's Carabao Cup final and the Premier League clash the following Thursday -- and the March 4 league game against Chelsea.
