Pep Guardiola on buying Manchester home: I was always committed to City

MANCHESTER -- Pep Guardiola has said he is enjoying life in Manchester, with reports saying he had paid £2.7 million for an apartment in the city earlier this year.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Manchester City will open discussions with Guardiola in the summer about staying beyond his three-year deal.

The manager, whose side travel to Crystal Palace on New Year's Eve, has always maintained that he and his family are happy in Manchester and he told a news conference: "The commitment was the same as last season when I didn't win. It looks like a commitment because we won, but last season it was the same.

"I think nothing changes -- whether I buy an apartment or rent an apartment, it won't affect the way I work or try to lead my profession.

"It's good that I bought an apartment because I have to live in some place. I'm happy to live in the city, it happened the same when I lived in Rome at Brescia and in Munich I preferred to live in the city and be with the people."

City would make it 19 successive wins with a triumph at Palace, equalling Guardiola's all-time best run at Bayern Munich which is also the record streak for any of the big five leagues.

He is expected to make changes to the team that won at Newcastle on Wednesday, extending their lead at the top to 15 points.

Fabian Delph, John Stones and David Silva were all missing for that game while Vincent Kompany was taken off after just 10 minutes with a calf strain.

But Guardiola said: "Vincent is not as bad as we thought. He will be ready for the next fixtures. We will know exactly tomorrow, but it is not a big issue.

"Fabian was not fit but he is much better now. Yesterday, he didn't train but the players are off today. We will see. Fabian is a similar case to Vincent -- he knows his body.

"John Stones is also much better. Yesterday he made first complete training session, but he is not ready for 90 minutes. I think he will be fit for the next game which is huge news for us. Silva -- we will see in the next days."

Another injury concern surrounding Kompany is likely to add to Guardiola's desire for another centre-back, with West Bromwich Albion's Jonny Evans and Real Sociedad's Inigo Martinez are possible targets, as was Southampton's Virgil van Dijk before he agreed a £75 million move to Liverpool.

Guardiola said: "Liverpool took an amazing player, an exceptional central defender, that's a price we'll see [how it looks] in the future.

"If he plays six or seven years at a high level it will be cheap. If not it will be expensive. People said John Stones was too expensive, now he's too cheap. It always depends what happens on the pitch."
