Manchester City's Kyle Walker not bothered by transfer fee

REYKJAVIK, ICELAND -- Kyle Walker says he's not interested in the size of his transfer fee, insisting he's only interested in winning silverware with Manchester City.

Tottenham Hotspur received £45 million for the England international with Pep Guardiola spending close to £120m on full-backs following the arrival of Danilo and Benjamin Mendy.

The size of the fee has come in for some criticism but Walker says he wants to prove to Guardiola that he was worth pursuing.

"It's totally out of my hands," the defender told a news conference ahead of City's final preseason friendly against West Ham in Iceland. "Whatever the two clubs decide is up to them. All I need to do is prove to the manager and to the team as well that my head's here.

"I want to go on and win things. That was my main reason for joining, and also working with the gaffer who can pass on his experience and the calibre of players that he's played with will hopefully improve my game."

Walker made his debut for the club at the International Champions Cup in the United States and, after a defeat in the opener to Manchester United, he impressed in victories over Real Madrid and former club Tottenham Hotspur.

The 27-year-old says that he is already excited by the brand of football that Guardiola is trying to play.

"I think it's just he likes to play attacking football that I like to play -- attractive, attacking football," he added.

"It's also about keeping the backdoor shut and not conceding many goals. I feel like we've been working on that in preseason and especially in the last two games we've really shown the quality that we've got and we can go and hurt teams."

Guardiola was also encouraged by his side's performances in the U.S. and says they are close to being ready for the Premier League opener against Brighton next Saturday.

The game against West Ham will be the final match to prepare but City have travelled without Samir Nasri, who has a problem with his neck, and Claudio Bravo, who has only just returned to first-team training after returning late form the Confederations Cup.

However, Bernardo Silva is with the squad, following his £43m move from Monaco, and could make his first appearance for the club.

"Claudio just arrived one day ago and was not really fit. Samir trained really good yesterday but he told us he has a problem in his neck and that's why he didn't travel. Nothing serious," Guardiola said.

"It's the last game from our preseason before we start. Hopefully we can stay in our level, especially from the last two games, with no injuries. To keep going and move forward is what we want to do.

"We played quite well. Unfortunately, it's preseason. We would have liked to be able to play at that level in the Premier League. Against tough opponents always it will be more difficult.

"But it's preseason, so there are 10 months, 11 months still to go. A lot will happen. But we are just seeing how we can improve game by game."
