Frank Lampard: Man City's Sergio Aguero best striker I've played with

Frank Lampard says Manchester City's Sergio Aguero is the best striker he ever played with on the same team.

The midfielder spent 13 seasons at Chelsea playing with forwards such as Didier Drogba, Hernan Crespo and Andrei Shevchenko and also won 106 caps for England alongside Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen.

But the 38-year-old, who retired last month, spent one season at the Etihad from 2014-15 and says that the Aguero is the striker who impressed him the most.

"Aguero's right at the top for me," Lampard told Sky Sports.

"I've been fortunate enough to play with great players. Didier Drogba I always rave about because he was an all-round striker who gave you everything. But in terms of an out-and-out goal scorer and finisher, Aguero is the best I've played with.

"Around the box he's lethal, he's sharp. I'm pleased to see him do well."

Aguero lost his place in the City side in January following the arrival of Gabriel Jesus but has been restored to the starting lineup after the Brazilian striker broke his foot, which is likely to rule him out for at least another six more weeks.

The 28-year-old has responded with five goals in his last three games and has earned praise for his all-round contribution to the team and Lampard believes City boss Pep Guardiola deserves credit for pushing Aguero to improve.

"Pep's set him a test now and said I need you to do that work for the team and it has actually improved him," he added. "Now you are seeing him being sharp and he's hungry, so maybe he took that test on board.

"When you are a top player, a world class striker and everything revolves around you scoring goals, he was probably content. He wanted to be in and around the box and was happy for others to do all the work but all of a sudden now it's changed and he's been tested.

"I don't think Pep Guardiola's messing around. If Aguero didn't change and he carried on playing in that way I think he might have a problem.

"I didn't see this happening but you do have to evolve as a player. No matter if you are one of the best strikers in the world if a new manager comes in who you respect and gives you something extra to add to your game you have to take that on board.

"That's what top players do, they keep improving and I hope Aguero's doing that. If he does he'll be an even better striker than what he is now."
