Manchester City ready to make Champions League history - Yaya

MANCHESTER -- Manchester City are ready to start making their own history in the Champions League, according to midfielder Yaya Toure.

The midfielder believes that City are underestimated in Europe compared to other English clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Toure reckons that wins such as Tuesday night's extraordinary 5-3 victory over Monaco will change people's minds.

City trailed with 3-2 with just 20 minutes remaining but will now take a two-goal advantage to Monaco for the second leg on March 15.

"An inexperienced team maybe would think the game was done, but with City we have a lot of experienced players in our team, like Silva -- we always been used to coming back in games," Toure told reporters.

"Today we showed a lot of desire and hunger as well.

"Because the history is not behind [us] -- you know what I mean -- a team like United, people will always believe them, because they have the history.

"We just try to do our best, try to come close to United, but it's what's got to happen in the few years coming."

City came in for criticism for their poor defending but Toure believes that both sides should be given credit for producing such an entertaining game.

"We hope to see those kind of games," he added. "Even myself, when I sit on the sofa, watching a European game, that's the kind of performance I want to see. It was brilliant -- we enjoyed it, the fans enjoyed it.

"From the beginning of the season until now, we always do that [attack], we always show that, that's the most important.

"With the new manager now it's all about attack. Sometimes you can do a mistake, but mistakes are part of the game. If you don't do mistakes, the football is not going to follow. We try to keep it going, try to be focused, try to do what we can."

Toure says City or Monaco are capable of going on to win the Champions League and believes the Premier League side may need to score twice to be certain of reaching the quarterfinals.

"We need to score two goals and we have to be careful. The tie is not finished yet, still we have a game to play away at Monaco," he said.

"We have to not underestimate them, and try to score goals again. We are a team we can score goals or we can concede goals.

"Definitely [the Champions League is] open -- because when you see PSG win [against] Barcelona, what can you say about that?"
