Sergio Aguero won't have penalty duties taken from him - Pep Guardiola

MANCHESTER -- Sergio Aguero won't be taken off penalty-taking duties at Manchester City despite missing two spot-kicks in the space of five days.

The Argentina striker, who was a second half substitute in the 1-1 draw with Everton on Saturday, saw his penalty saved by goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, who also kept out a Kevin De Bruyne penalty in the first half.

Aguero also had a penalty saved on Tuesday when Argentina were beaten 1-0 at home by Paraguay in a World Cup qualifier.

The 28-year-old also missed two penalties for City in a Champions League qualifier against Steaua Bucharest in August although he has scored four times from the spot for City this season.

He has missed five of his last 12 penalties for City after failing in just three of his previous 24 attempts for the club.

But one of those was in the Champions League last-16 defeat to Barcelona at the Nou Camp in March 2015, when a goal would have made the tie 3-2 with City having 12 minutes to find an equaliser.

However, Pep Guardiola says he will leave it up to Aguero to decide if he wants to take a penalty if City win one against Barca in their Group C clash on Wednesday night.

"I love the players who have the personality to take the penalties, I love it I'm sorry," Guardiola told a news conference. "I never said when one player wants to take a penalty: 'No, another one.'"

"He's intelligent and when he's not feeling confident he's going to stay back and another guy is going to kick the penalty."

City have lost all four of their previous Champions League matches against Barcelona but may need at least a point if they are to have any hope of topping Group C.

Luis Enrique's side have won their two opening games, while City were surprisingly held by Scottish champions Celtic to leave them two points behind.

But Guardiola says he won't be playing for a draw on his first return to the Nou Camp as a City boss.

"I never thought about the next game thinking about making a draw," Guardiola said.

"No win in Glasgow means we have to take points from Barcelona there or here and especially in Germany [against Borussia Monchengladbach] as well.

"We have four games left, we have to win to get six points for the next step and we are going to try to win the first points in the next game, that is sure."
