MANCHESTER, England -- Pep Guardiola is having to manage expectations after Manchester City's perfect start to the season and is wary of the quality he saw from Liverpool and Chelsea on Friday.
City maintained their two-point lead at the top of the Premier League table with a brilliant 4-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday -- three days after beating Borussia Monchengladbach by the same scoreline in the Champions League.
Guardiola has been delighted with how his side have kicked off their campaign, but has warned there will be difficult times to come.
City have faced only Manchester United of their potential title rivals and Guardiola pointed to the quality in Liverpool's victory over Chelsea on Friday as proof that there are serious challenges ahead.
"My question is, [did] the people who came to this game really enjoy it? Yes? Wow, that is enough," he told a news conference. "To win titles or not we will see. [On Friday night] I saw two fantastic opponents and I know how difficult it will be, absolutely everything."
However, Guardiola did admit he is surprised at how quickly his side have started playing such high quality football.
Bournemouth were blown away at the Etihad with goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Kelechi Iheanacho, Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan in another brilliant performance.
"I have to be honest, it's quick, I didn't expect that," Guardiola added. "I am surprised how long we are able to play good levels. All the players we create more chances than the opponent, we conceded less chances than the opponent, that is the most important thing."
City's eighth-successive victory makes it the best start to a season in the club's history -- although they won their first five Premier League games last season and only sneaked into a top-four spot at the end of the campaign on goal difference.
Chelsea's Carlo Ancelotti is the only new manager to win his first five Premier League games and no team has ever won their first six matches in the Premier League.
Guardiola went 28 games unbeaten during his time at Barcelona, but blew away suggestions of going on a similar run so early into his reign at the Etihad.
"I am not here to say we are about to achieve 20 games in a row without defeat, no believe me, we are going to lose," he said.
"Hopefully as late as possible, but we are a good team, but there are many things we can make better.
"Of course we are so happy, but it's not enough and some movements in the high pressing [up to] half time were not good."
